TEDDY BEAR TEA 2014
Soroptimist International of Calaveras County held it’s 17th annual Teddy Bear Tea for 2014 on Sunday, November 16th at FrogTown (Fairgrounds) in Angels Camp. There were more than 125 children, parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, brothers and sisters or good friends in attendance. Children dressed in their Sunday best were precious.
The afternoon tea began at 1:30PM with entertainment, crafts for the children, face painters, Mr. & Mrs. Santa, holiday music, a fabulous juggler as well as raffles galore for both adults and children alike. Guests were greeted just outside the entrance with the musical talents of member Elena Lineham and husband Gary –the name of their group is Amnesia. Many thanks to Elena & Gary.
Upon entering the main dining room in Mark Twain Hall –the room looked very festive and so elegant! Linen tablecloths, matching napkins, chair back covers in the same fabric were tied with elegant hunter green ribbon enhanced with a contrasting ribbon. What a sight to see! Live rosemary plants served as centerpieces.
The stage area was alit with glowing stars on the backdrop and a lovely Christmas tree took center stage. Small icicle lights hung over the front of the stage area as well as smaller Christmas & holiday decorations. It was a visual delight and set the festive holiday spirit from the beginning.
Traditional high-tea foods were served: small quiches, delicious lemon scones, fancy tea sandwiches in a variety of flavors enhanced everyone’s plates. Desserts featured delicious mini cupcakes elegantly frosted, lemon bars, marshmallow treats on a popsicle stick and decorated as a Christmas package —oh so creative!
We were entertained in fine fashion by the Mark Twain Elementary school 3rd grade ukelele band under the direction of Dan Perrault. Studio 4 Theatre ballerinas entertained the group with 3 or 4 short numbers that were so professionally done. Kudos to all who participated.
Raffle prizes and Cash for the Holidays raffles were interspersed throughout the afternoon and there were many happy children, and adults too, who took home very nice raffle prizes.
None of this would be possible without our loyal supporters and sponsors. Those “angels” included: Golden State Cellular, Dignity Health, Umpqua Bank, John & Michelle Rugo, Dr. Ryan Thompson, MD, John & Kathleen Redpath, Shirley Ryan and Dr. Roger Wahlman. These ongoing donations allow Soroptimists to continue our projects and mission to support women and girls throughout Calaveras County. Thank you so much.
