Upon entering the lobby of The Historic Metropolitan, San Andreas, on Saturday, February 8, 2020, a beautifully decorated seating area greeted guests in readiness for a night of laughter, friendship and wine. The 2nd Wine and Whimsy fundraiser held by Soroptimist International of Calaveras County (SICC), was soon to begin.
Elaborately decorated tables with more than 25 raffle baskets adorned the upper area and were filled to over-flowing with themes like Italian, popcorn & movies, pampering/hair/nails, tea, coffee & wine, pets, chocolate, outings, wine tasting, dinners, tours, more wine, rice cooker, rum & coke and much more!
Finger foods galore were available to the guests and the trays were restocked often. There was always a line for the nibbles’ and luscious desserts. The no-host bar was open to provide libations and beverages.
Liz Grant, our comedian for the evening, hails from the Bay Area. She does a monthly Standup Showcase of comedy at the Danville Village Theatre. She has worked with comedic greats Dana Carvey and Robin Williams. Her repertoire touched on dating, family, friends and such. Laughter could be heard throughout The Met – Liz kept the audience in stitches especially with her use of the microphone.
To add excitement and fun to the evening, a Live Auction was added. Great prizes and donations included: 12 tickets to the Calaveras County Fair, an over-night stay and vouchers from Black Oak Casino, Crown Royal quilt, a year of desserts – made by Soroptimist members, dessert breads from Sister Loaves and an overflowing Tub of Wine (holding more than18 bottles). Bidding was vigorous and everyone was delighted with the added chance to take home a treasure!
An event like Wine & Whimsy would be impossible without loyal, generous sponsors: Dignity Health Mark Twain Medical Center, Bank of Stockton, Mike & Julie Cantrall, Roberta Bean, Julia Tidball, Sierra Hills Market, Gay Callan Family, Edward Jones Investments, Sunset Auto, Signal Service, Gold Electric, and Stacy Joyner & family. SICC so appreciates your continued support.
